consolidated post of all the website/pos nags i’ve ever done….. get a gin it’s long !!!

The big issues as discussed are image size, they must be square and set to 550×550 otherwise they won’t lay correctly on your page, and take too long to download into POS, also not PNG or they will be removed as they are too large to resize via your phone works well.

Additional images must also be added to a collage/swatch sheet which can be used across your products, not different ones used for the same designs in each product or across Leeds and York otherwise POS slow down again. It doesn’t matter how great the equipment we use if it slows down because there’s too much crap on it.

We also now have some seo name updating software so they have the same name as the product attached. This mean I can now see how many images aren’t being used because their names haven’t changed and have lots of numbers. Some sellers have over 300 images but only 20 products ! this is causing us problems

So……. please remove all images not being used, it’s not pinterest to put them there just in case. Especially if you then don’t actually attach them to your product, all items do need a pic btw so the website doesn’t look crap

1 If you have cards/prints/originals you don’t need a different set of images if is the same in each, you just need 1 of the item to show the finish then the same option image used in each code.

2 If you are in Leeds and York you don’t need a separate Leeds or York image for the same product you just need 1 image to use in both

3 unless you have variations you don’t need multiple images per product 1 or maximum 2 will do, you certainly don’t need multiple copies of the same image stored on file

4 Please don’t use PNGs these are far too high res and slow down the system

Codes

The amount of codes is slowing the system down as they can’t all download in time so…….

1 Please cut codes down, if you have mugs, stickers etc you don’t need a separate code per design, as you all know, you need 1 code and variations.

2 if you sell one of a kind products delete them when they are sold !, there are so many old codes in some people’s folders we can cut it down by about 1000 if they go and it will speed everything up

Please don’t add related items or product tags as it slows the system down, attributes instead

Giving everything a unique name, inc images and options, not just earrings, bracelet, prints etc, or it can cause site issues with POS looking for other people’s earrings, bracelet, prints etc. who also haven’t saved it with a unique name, as they end up in a redirect loop

This also applies if you are in Leeds and York, products are the same one with location as a variation now etc as Google penalise us for doing that, and again there is a website redirect loop occurring

Copying and pasting info from Word or Etsy etc which clashes with the layout of the product and image info it can also introduce a worm or Trojan into the site and cause us to be hacked, as happened with the last site. If you need to then run it through a Text Editor, such as Notepad beforehand to clean it up

Also don’t use characters in product titles such as

, ” () ! ‘ etc. I notice many of you do this and it’s why your products don’t always come up in Pos or show on the website as it corrupts the URL if you don’t also amend that to remove them

All products should be assigned to shop category that is not uncategorised

We don’t have time now for Pos issues, we need it to be as slick as possible and all of the above are causing the crashing problems and need sorting by return.

I’m sorting the website out but can only do so much, the rest is down to you chaps.

Most manuals are a result of stock input error rather than POS

We need it all correcting asap, everyone moving to variations to cut codes down for things like coasters, artwork, mugs, magnets, same price jewellery etc and new stock should start to come in with your new coding on. No one should have more than 25 codes ideally

Everyone needs to get into the habit of checking their website pages front end often so we can publicise the shop to customers better and google finds us. You can also see what they look like here https://fabricationcraftsonline.co.uk/stores-list/

As always any problems just ask
